LASIK / FEMTO LASIK

LASIK (LASER ASSISTED IN SITU KERTAOMILEUSIS)

This is a procedure to correct refractive errors and get rid of dependence on prescription glasses and contact lenses.

LASIK surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure where the patient just walks in and walks out. It is a NO INJECTION,NO STITCH, NO PAD TECHNIQUE. The entire procedure takes approximately fifteen minutes and both eyes are usually treated the same day. The procedure is performed using topical anesthesia (eye drops). During the first few hours, some patients may temporarily experience a slight foreign body or burning sensation and blurry vision. This typically settles in a day’s time.

Patients usually see a dramatic improvement in their vision within the first day. Most patients return to their normal activities within a day or two. LASIK patients are placed on an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drop for about 1 week. Patients are instructed to wear a protective eye shield while sleeping for 7 days to prevent accidental eye rubbing during the early healing period.

FEMTO LASIK:

In conventional Lasik the corneal  flap  is created with the help of an instrument, the microkeratome.

A recent advancement is the use of another laser to create the tissue dissection and create the flap. This is called Femto Lasik. So the element of machine malfunction is removed. This nullifies a lot of the potential problems that could arise during conventional LASIK . Femto Lasik is very popular nowadays as a safer and more reliable procedure than conventional lasik .

CUSTOM LASIK / CONTURA VISION

Customised LASIK is the newest FDA-approved procedure as an advancement over conventional LASIK. It provides your doctor with the tools to precisely measure your specific optical pathway, like a “fingerprint” of your vision. This custom “fingerprint” enables your eye surgeon to customize the LASIK procedure to your unique visual requirements.

This Wavefront technology provides an additional level of precise data about your eye to truly personalize your vision correction. A device called a wavefront analyzer measures the way light travels through your optical pathway and compares it to the way light travels through an optically perfect eye. This device then creates a map of the detected irregularities of the visual system. This map displays irregularities that cannot be measured any other way.

SMILE

SMILE  (Small incision lenticule extraction) is the latest addition to the refractive surgery stable to get rid of eye glass numbers. It has an advantage in that it does not involve creation of a corneal flap . A laser ablates the corneal tissue and creates a lenticule proportionate to the number that needs to be corrected. This lenticule is removed through a very tiny incision. Since there is no flap creation the bio mechanical integrity of the cornea is better preserved. This is a huge advantage and thus many patients prefer SMILE nowadays. The final visual result of SMILE is comparable with LASIK but the long term stability of the cornea is where it scores big.
